Liposuction or liposculpture

The quantity of fat cells in your body does not change after the age of three. If you get fatter they increase in volume and if you get thinner they are reduced. Sometimes a problem area fails to adapt to your new body shape.

Liposuction or liposculpture corrects these problem areas with a lasting result, since you don’t make any new fat cells. For this procedure, the surgeon sucks away the excess fat and fat cells. Liposuction can be performed up to the age of fifty. After this age a skin lift is probably required in combination with the liposuction, as the skin becomes less elastic. This is also the case after extreme weight loss. During the procedure, the surgeon infiltrates first the problem area with salt-water and analgesic and haemostatic substances. He inserts a small fine tube via an incision less than a centimetre long. This allows him to suck away the excess fat. If the problem area is not too large, this procedure can take place under local anaesthetic. Otherwise it’s best to opt for general anaesthetic.
